Measles (Rubeola) in Multiple States in the United States

According to the CDC, from January 1st through April 19, 2019, there have been 626 confirmed cases of measles in 22 states in the U.S.A. (compared to 127 cases as of February 14, 2019), with an increase of 71 cases just in one week. This jettisons this year’s cases to the second highest since Measles was considered eliminated in 2000, with 2014 only slightly ahead with a total of 667 cases for that complete year vs. this year’s cases collected in under four (4) months. The expectation is that 2019 will post the largest numbers of cases since the elimination of measles in the United States.
There are currently six (6) outbreaks of Measles located in five (5) states: multiple areas of New York State (Rockland & Monroe Counties, Brooklyn and Queens; two areas of Washington State (Clark & King Counties); New Jersey (Ocean County and likely in Monmouth County too); California (Placer, San Mateo, Santa Clara, & Butte Counties); and Michigan (Oakland & Wayne Counties with one in Detroit).
There are also other states reporting confirmed cases that number less than 3 in an area, so they are not considered outbreaks but individual cases. Due to the infectiousness of measles (its ability to spread/transmit from person to person), more outbreaks may be identified by the CDC in the future. The other states that have reported measles cases, as of April 19, 2019, are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, & Washington.
