Having worked in Fire and EMS systems for over three decades, Bernie Horak is one of our Clinical Specialists on the FirstWatch team. He is excited to work with our customers to get them the information they need to monitor and improve their systems and patient care. “I see myself as a bridge between our customers and our engineering staff to analyze data that is in their systems and develop it into actionable information.” he says. It is the opportunity to help improve patient care in a number of EMS systems and do the right thing for the right things reasons that makes Bernie truly passionate about his work.

Bernie received his Bachelor’s degree in EMS Management from University of Maryland – Baltimore County and his Associates in Criminal Justice from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY. He first started his career in the industry as a Firefighter/EMT with the US Air Force. Having worked in public safety for so long, Bernie has held virtually every position: paramedic, firefighter, EMS Coordinator, Assistant Chief in the fire service, supervisor, field operations and communications center manager, and has led county and regional EMS systems. Since 2007, Bernie serves as an Air Rescue medic for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and as a firefighter on the China Spring Volunteer Fire Department.

When he is not working, Bernie enjoys volunteering, hiking, racing his Shelby Mustang, and hanging out of helicopters!
