IHI-HarvardX Upcoming Series – Practical Improvement Science in Health Care: A Roadmap for Getting Results

Over the last 25 years healthcare quality improvement has undergone a radical transformation, led by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). EMS has been scrambling to catch up. We…you, have an unprecedented opportunity to catch up and learn state of the art healthcare quality improvement skills from world-class leaders/educators – for FREE!

The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) starts on January 20th, 2016 and lasts for six weeks. The course will consist of short engaging videos, additional resources, and full access to the social network provided by the edX platform where you can join healthcare leaders from all over the world learning the practical science of improvement. Course materials will be released on the Tuesday of each week.

One of our own EMS leaders, former paramedic Dave Williams Ph.D., the Executive Director of Improvement Capability for IHI serves as expert faculty for this course along with Harvard Professor/IHI’s Chief Medical Officer Don Goldman, MD and Don Berwick, MD, IHI’s Founder and former Director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Normally it would cost thousands of dollars to take a course like this from these three leaders, but Harvard is making it available to all of us for free.

To get the most from this program FirstWatch will be hosting a FREE on-line roundtable after each of the IHI-HarvardX sessions! These roundtable discussions will be moderated by IHI Improvement Advisor Mike Taigman with expert faculty:

Joe Penner
Ernie Rodriguez
Todd Stout
Jonathan Washko

During these conversations we will explore how what you’ve learned from the HarvardX presentation applies in your EMS organization, how you can make dramatic improvements in almost any area of your service, and how we can support each other’s learning. Let us know that you’re interested and we will send you the dates, times, and log in details for each Roundtable. Roundtables will be held on the following Tuesdays at 11 am after each week’s materials are released. This is going to be fun, we hope that you join us!
